Tiago Monteiro and SEAT in Oschersleben
WTCC returns in Germany this weekend
Tiago Monteiro will return to the wheel of the SEAT Leon TDI at the Oschersleben circuit this coming weekend. After a six week break, the FIA World Touring Car Championship enters its final phase with two races left to contest in Europe (Germany and Italy) and two in Asia (Japan and Macao) and SEAT Sport's objective is to defend their two titles, manufacturers and drivers.
With SEAT being just ten points ahead in the team battle, it is a very open championship in regard to the drivers and Tiago knows that in Germany his mission will be to secure a good collective performance and place himself at the service of his team. "We want to leave Oschersleben with the biggest tally possible," Tiago explained. "Last year things did not go well but the rain could play in our favour because it could help save our tyres. But it will only be after the practice sessions that we'll have a better idea of what is possible and realistic for us. The FIA WTCC is open and at SEAT Sport we need to double our efforts in order to be sure to be competitive and to have a chance of beating our rivals."
In Oschersleben, the SEAT Leon TDI will have an extra 60kg of ballast compared to the Lada and to the SEAT TFSI and it will be 10kg heavier than the Chevrolet.
In a few hours, Tiago will once again take his place behind the wheel of the no.5 car, the pilot from Oporto now impatient to find his feeling again and renew his pleasure in racing the Leon TDI. "The perspective of taking to the wheel again is really nice. The last races went well, especially Valencia and Brno where I climbed on the podium. The WTCC requires a full attention and the least mistake can make you lose many positions because the race paces are very close. That's what makes the WTCC so appealing for the drivers."
The return of the FIA World Touring Car Championship should be wet with the arrival of light rain continuing with maximum temperatures of 19o.C. Qualifying and both races will be broadcasted live by the Eurosport network, Saturday at 2:15 PM and Sunday at 11:45 AM and 1:30 PM (U.K. Time).
