Klenke and Jaeger geared up for Silverstone WTCC Round

SILVERSTONE, May 14th, 2005 -- Team Ford Hotfiel Sport experienced a difficult Saturday at the third round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Silverstone. Thomas Klenke will start Sunday's first race from 24th place on the grid in his Ford Focus RS WTCC, Thomas Jaeger will start last after an engine change in the morning.

Both drivers suffered from a lack of track time in the free practice sessions. Jaeger's engine died in the first session. Replacement work continued until after the second free session, meaning that the 28-year-old from Munich didn't have enough time to work on the set-up of his Focus RS. "We have been suffering over the bumps," reported Jaeger. "The rear has been kicking up, making it very unpredictable to drive. Since we lost so much track time this morning, we didn't find a way to cure that for qualifying -- even though we gradually decreased it by changes on the rear dampers and anti-rollbar."

The same applied for Klenke, who has been suffering from a misfire and whose engine dropped to three cylinders in the first session. "Even in qualifying, the misfire still occurred at about 8000 rpm," said Klenke. "The rear of the car was moving quite a lot, too. The harder you turned in, the more movement the car developed."

Eberhard Braun, the German motorsports manager of FordTeamRS, said: "We have done a lot of testing before Silverstone and managed a number of improvements. However, most of the testing was carried out on circuits with a smooth surface -- like Lurcy-Levis, where the team went after the last round in Magny-Cours. Thus, we were caught out by the bumps on the short version of the Silverstone circuit. I'm sure we would have coped had it not been for the lack of track time in the free sessions."
