The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) has just wrapped up the first half of its 2012 season this weekend on the fast Salzburgring circuit, which drivers had to cover 12 times to reach the finish line of the 11th and 12th races of the year.

Tiago Monteiro can switch to the second half of the season with pride and peace of mind after conquering 5th place in the first race. In so doing, he secured 10 precious points for the drivers' and constructors' championships. In the second race, the driver of the SEAT León #18 car was as brilliant, but less successful since a flat tyre forced him to retire while he was battling with several rivals. At the time of his DNF, in the 5th lap, he had just recorded the 2nd fastest lap of the race.

Tiago Monteiro is once again satisfied with his performances in qualifying and in the races. "It was an important weekend for us. We managed to stand out in the leading pack despite the handicaps we had to deal with," the Portuguese Seat Sun Red driver declared. "In terms of performance, the end result is positive; our race pace was good in particular. I was attacking from the first lap to the last lap in the first race, to guarantee this 5th place finish for the team, which is a fine reward."

The result in the second race could have been as good as the first one, but a puncture forced the the Portuguese driver out of the race. "I knew that it was going to be tough managing the tyres. Despite everything, without this puncture in the fastest and longest corner of the circuit, I could have tried to equal my result from the first race."

The next FIA WTCC races will be particularly important for Tiago Monteiro, since they will be contestd on Portugal's Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, June 2 and 3. Tiago does not yet know if he will have the new 1.6 Liter Turbo engine. "Regardless of which version of the SEAT León we will have, we will prepare for these races with the greatest professionalism and the same determination, trying to obtain the best result within our reach. Logically, racing in front of my fans, I would like to have the new engine, but if that is not the case, it won't effect my motivation at all."
