Grid positions eight and nine for BMW Team RBM in Valencia.
Valencia, 18th September 2010. In qualifying for the 17th round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, the "Circuit de la Comunitat" in Valencia (ES) proved to be difficult territory for BMW Team RBM. Augusto Farfus (BR) set a lap time of 1:45.205 minutes in the decisive top-ten shootout, putting him ninth. His team-mate, Andy Priaulx (GB), was 0.211 seconds slower and finished tenth. Due to a grid penalty for another competitor, however, both drivers will gain one position on the starting grid for Sunday's first race.
With a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a few clouds in the sky, it was SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini who claimed pole position in Spain, posting a best time of 1:44.111 minutes. In "Q1" Farfus and Priaulx finished fifth and tenth respectively, therefore advancing to the second phase.
The first race of the weekend will get underway on Sunday at 13:05hrs local time (12:05hrs BST). Race two starts at 15:20hrs (14:20hrs BST) and closes the European leg of the 2010 WTCC season before the series continues in Asia.
Bart Mampaey (Team Principal):
"The first phase of qualifying was already a tough job, as the lap times were all very close. We successfully advanced into Q2 with both cars. Our performance in the final ten minutes was not good enough. The track didn't offer much grip, which doesn't suit our car. Both drivers tried to make the best of the situation. But it wasn't easy to put in a flawless lap in such conditions."
Augusto Farfus (Car Number 10):
"This lap simply was the maximum I could get out of the car in qualifying. We knew before this would be a quite difficult circuit for us, and today's qualifying just proved this again. From where I saw it, the track got worse over the course of the two sessions. Normally it's getting better towards the end, but this time the grip just didn't come. Being a second behind the man on pole is tough. But we will fight in Sunday's races."
Andy Priaulx (Car Number 11):
"It is going to be a big scrap this weekend, and we have worked very hard today. I was expecting to be between eighth and 12th, and we are eighth and ninth, which is what we expected. It is always a tough track for us in qualifying, so we have to turn that into points tomorrow, it's as simple as that."
