Tom Boardman’s SEAT León suffered from extensive damage in a high speed crash at Turn 7 during the warm up session.

The Briton missed the braking point, cut over the inside kerb, failed to t-bone Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet and crashed into the concrete wall. Boardman was transferred to the medical centre for checks and then sent to Marrakech’s military hospital for undergoing ultrasound scan, as he is suffering from traumas caused by the safety belts. Apparently the accident was consequence of a brake failure.

The session was red-flagged and not resumed with four minutes left on the clock.

Another red flag has been caused by Michel Nykjær in the early minutes. The Dane spun and brushed the wall at Turn 14, but his car suffered only from minor body damage.

Medical update on Boardman

Tom Boardman returned to the track after all the checks at Marrakech’s military hospital turned negative. The English driver had been sent to the hospital after his crash in this morning warm up session.

“It was not a good experience. Everything was going very well, my lap time was pretty good as well. I could see MacDowall in the distance and said myself I’m trying to get his tow. But when I got to turns 7 and 8, I pressed the brake pedal and nothing happened. And in a split second I found myself into the wall. Now I’m very sore… down below. And it’s not a good feeling.. I think tomorrow will be even worse… They sent me to the hospital and made a lot of checks, everything is right with me. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the car…” Boardman said.
