Isack Hadjar asks for broken Dutch GP trophy to be returned: "I don't know what's going on"

Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar, fresh from his maiden F1 podium at Zandvoort, says he wants to keep his accidentally-broken trophy

Racing Bulls driver Isack Hadjar is keen to receive his broken Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix trophy despite expecting a replacement.

Update:

The French-Algerian driver scored his maiden F1 podium at Zandvoort after crossing the line in third behind race winner Oscar Piastri and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. However, as he celebrated the milestone with his team, he accidentally cracked the handmade trophy in two.

It has since been confirmed that Hadjar will receive a replacement trophy, but he is quite adamant that he wants the original one and he does not know where it has ended up.

"I don't even know where my trophy is, my broken trophy," he explained. "I mean, the team is taking care of it, I guess. I left it in good hands. Both parts. But I don't know what's going on.

"But I get a new one, I know that. But I want my broken one," he added firmly.

The rookie driver added that he has "been given glue by so many people".

"You can't imagine - I could glue the whole paddock right now."

After having a few days to let the podium sink in, Hadjar was still beaming when he spoke to the media at Monza, although he confirmed that he has not celebrated the milestone yet.

"You spend your Monday answering back, basically. I see nothing changes," Hadjar explained. "Now I can say I'm a podium finisher in F1, that's cool. I'm very happy."

His first podium came after a tricky start to the year when he crashed during the formation lap of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

"I think the hard thing to do is just try not to deal with that, try not to think," he said about the roller coaster emotions throughout the year so far. "Whether it's a good result or a bad result you have behind you, you just get back in the car the next day and you do what you do best. It's actually very easy."
