MILNER AND 40 YEARS OF IMSA
As the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) prepares for its 40th season of road-racing, it seems appropriate to spend some time with a member of the American Le Mans Series paddock who was part of the first race at Pocono in 1969.
Tom Milner, owner and principal of Prototype Technology Group (PTG), has been overseeing the Panoz GT2 effort in the American Le Mans Series since 2007. The Series, of course, is one of several that IMSA sanctions.
"It's always been about sports car racing," Milner said. "To a large extent, IMSA has kept up with the advancements of technology to the cars that you drive on the street.
"I have always been a sports car racing fan and there have been a lot of different sanctioning bodies over the years," he added. "In my mind IMSA and the American Le Mans Series have always been true to what the name stands for. That means international - all kinds of cars, motors and drivers. Pull them all together and between old guys and young guys, women and men, normally-aspirated engines and turbos, diesel and conventional fuels . that is real racing. We can all compete against each other on a level playing field and always know that you always had a chance."
