Finally a routine pit stop for our lads in the 20 Car: a total of 47 seconds (30 for the tires) and Andy Lally's back in the fray with no dramas.
Since the Dyson No. 16 sister ship continues to motor along, despite that early contretemps that mangled some rear body work and the right rear tire. Just five minutes before the 20 Car stop above, the 16 -- running second in LMP2 to the Andretti-Green Acura -- came in for tires, fuel and a driver swap, Chris Dyson for Guy Smith. The total time from pit-in to pit-out was 1:16, one of the quickest stops overall that included a driver change.
Smith jumped in for Dyson as the crew changed rear body work after that early crash, and we asked Guy if the car was much affected: "Not really. No. I mean, obviously, the biggest problem whenever there's a yellow is the pick-up (on the tires). The car did really well -- once we did the restart, the tires came in pretty well and the car was handling pretty well. So far, so good.
"This is always such a crazy race. It's an endurance race; but since it's the first race of the year, everybody seems to be going like a bat out of hell. So it's a bit wild, but it's a lot of fun to be racing again."
