Sears Point: Jason Workman preview

Atlanta, GA, July 25, 2003: Jason Workman returns to the cockpit this weekend to compete in the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma on July 25-27. The young Georgia driver will share driving duties with Infineon Raceway's own, David McEntee, Chief Instructor at the track's Jim Russell Race Driver's School. Both will co-pilot Essex Racing's Lola Nissan in the highly competitive P675 division of the American LeMans Series.

"It is great to have David as my co-driver this weekend," commented Workman. "He will be a great help to me as prepare for the race. David has been around this track perhaps more than anyone else in the race and he will be a great asset to the team and especially to me as a driver. I look forward to his input and valuable experience at this track."

Workman visits Infineon Raceway for the first time. In fact, with the exception of Road Atlanta and Sebring, all the tracks of the American LeMans Series events are new to Workman. But hardly inexperienced, Workman cut his teeth in racing by competing on the circuits of Europe. He is one of the very few American drivers who competed in Europe and managed to race very successfully against European competition. As evidence, Workman completely dominated the 1999 Scandinavian FF2000 Championship by winning the championship crown with two races left to go on the schedule and won an impressive eight races during the season. It was a commanding performance, one not duplicated before or since his 1999 Championship season.

For 2003, Workman expects to compete exclusively here in North America. "It is great to race back in the USA," added Workman. "I thoroughly enjoyed my European race experiences and would welcome a return campaign, but for now, my focus is squarely on competing in the American LeMans Series. Essex Racing is a vastly experienced racing operation and I am excited to be a part of this year's team."

The Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma is scheduled to take the green flag at 12 pm, (Pacific) Sunday, July 27 and will be broadcast live on NBC television.
