HIGHCROFT RACING 6th IN CLASS
8th OVERALL AFTER FIRST TESTING SESSION AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Thursday, May 17, 2007 --- Taking the Acura ARX-01a out on the track for the first time in this evening's test session, Stefan Johansson reacquainted himself with the 4.5 mile, 24-turn circuit he raced last year in the Grand Am Series. "This track is more physical than most," explained Johansson. "Because of its length, it can take a little longer to memorize the turns and find your braking points. It took a while to get used to some of the corners tonight, but we got a good feel for the car and we should run well tomorrow."
Spending more time in pit lane than anticipated, Team Manager Robin Hill and the crew "worked through what we thought was an electrical problem but turned out to be an issue with the actuator in the gearbox. It was the last thing we could change in pit lane and it seemed to solve the problem."
Team Owner Duncan Dayton pointed out that "despite some of the shifting issues, by the end of the session, we were running competitive laps. It's a good indication for the team that, after only six laps, we were only four seconds off the pace. Once we get the set up a little more attuned to the track, we'll get where we need to be - the car continues to perform very strongly."
