Toledo Speedway report 2000-0630

Toledo Speedway hosted the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series Friday night. Robbin Slaughter backed up his track record, 17.51 seconds, in qualifying by winning the 50-lap feature in commanding fashion.

Early race action saw a great battle between Chad Guinn, David Clay, Mike Carter and Slaughter for second place. Todd Braun led the early laps until Carter moved around him on lap 13 to take the point while Guinn, Clay and Slaughter continued to race for position. Slaughter dove low around Carter 25 laps later to take the lead and immediately began to put distance on the field. The trucks ran their 50-lap event without a caution.

Defending track champion, Kenny Ahlgren, visited victory lane for the third time in 2000 at Toledo Speedway. Ricky Kargel led the field down for the green but Ahlgren outdragged him into the first turn and led the entire 20-lap distance. As usual the criss-crossing Figure 8 drivers kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Again it was Ron Allen dominating the 25 lap Sportsman division at Toledo. Allen has bettered his track record every weekend the Sportsman have been in action. Not only that but the Lincoln Park, Mich. driver has won every feature event for a new division which is new this season. Polesitter Rich Frantz jumped into the lead, but it didn’t take Allen long to move around Frantz for the top spot, taking over the point on lap 7. Allen kept his blue #69 in front for the remainder of the race and was was never seriously challenged enroute to the win. Randy Cronenwett hit the third turn wall for the only caution of the event. The car received frontend damage and was through for the night.

Chris Wilcox was the seventh different driver to score a feature win in the competitive Factory Stock division. He held off teammate Jeff Maran, the division’s only two time winner in 2000, for the win in the 20-lap event.
