LONG BEACH, Calif. - Canadian Alex Tagliani took the provisional pole for Saturday's KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach,

Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Que., posted a time of 1:12.190 around the 1.824-mile temporary street course to take the provisional pole. Anthony Lazzaro, of Acworth, Ga., was second-fastest after recording a time of 1:12.261. Kenny Wilden, of Burlington, Ont., was third fastest at 1:12.281. Saturday's Atlantic race will kick off the series' 26th season of competition.
