The season's first podium for GP Racing in Monza.
After the European rounds, the Euro 3000 Series came back to Italy on the fast and famous track in Monza. It is just Monza that seemed to have brought luck to the Venetian team that got its season's first podium with Fabrizio Del Monte and got the fastest lap during the race with Roman Rusinov.
Tancredi Pagiaro
"In spite of the blistering heat, the team worked very hard on this fascinating
track that we consider home. The qualifying session went well with Del Monte
in 4th place and with Rusinov, who didn't know the track very well, right
behind him. All in all I'm happy with Sunday's result. Fabrizio deserved the
podium win. It's a pity that that accident put Roman out of order. Moreover I
would like to highlight that we had the best first and second lap during the
race, respectively with Rusinov and Del Monte. This confirmed all the great
work done by our team this weekend and proved our team's competitive
side."
Roman Rusinov
"It was a sour weekend that I want to forget about. After a positive qualifying
session, a technical inconvenience at the start left me stranded at the green
light. My adversaries overtook me and I was last. While trying to catch up, I
hit Heidfeld and unfortunately due to this, I went off track with a damaged
nose. It was impossible for me to continue the race."
Fabrizio Del Monte
"I'm extremely happy with the third place. It's the first podium this year that
recompensates me after a bleak season last year. Too bad I had a little
problem with the clutch at the start that made me lose a position. But I didn't
lose sight and I climbed my way up to third place. I tried to overtake
Grassotto (he finished in second place) but by then the race was coming to
an end and I couldn't find the right moment to do it. This podium win isn't bad
at all and I'm fully satisfied with it. This gives me confidence for the following
races."
