NORWALK, OH -- The frustration continues to mount for Leesburg, Virginia's Johnny Rocca as he failed to qualify for the third consecutive time since his triumphant moment at Cordova's Summer Nationals. The veteran pilot of the Prolong Super Lubricants sponsored 1949 Mercury could only produce a 6.648/211.51 that came during the final session.
This outing creates speculation as to whether Rocca will continue to race under the current Pro Modified rules that dropped the allowable overdrive percentage on supercharged entries to 30% from 34%. His only two qualifying efforts came under the 34% combination.
"We are just going to assess the situation and try to see what works the best for us in the long run," explained Rocca. "We are working as hard as we ever were, it's just that things aren't falling our way."
