Kopp Motorsports to campaign new and more powerful dragster
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO (February 4, 2007) -- Veteran drag racer Rick Kopp will be turning up the wick in dramatic fashion this year with the Team Husky Top Dragster. The Burlington, Ontario resident and owner of Kopp Motorsports will be fielding an entirely new race car in the Top Dragster class.
"We've got a new chassis," said Kopp recently. "We're in the process of getting a new engine built. When we hit the track this year, we're going to be in a 200-mph car. I can't wait."
Kopp's former dragster has been sold, and he and Team Husky crew members are working on the new 265-inch long dragster. Noted race engine builder Carl Spiering and his ERD (Engine Research & Development) firm are building a new Rodeck powerplant. A two-speed Powerglide-type transmission will be coupled to the new engine on the 1700-pound car. Kopp is estimating between 2000 and 2200 horsepower on tap when he hits the throttle.
The Team Husky Top Dragster will run at several drag race events for 2007, including several IHRA eMax Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series events. The team will also be a highlight at several Home Depot locations as part of the Team Husky promotional tour across Ontario.
