Excellent qualifying speeds up rookie Robert in top position on the grid, at Spa!
(Belgium) --27/08/2004 -- On the demanding and fascinating Belgian circuit Dutch Robert Doornbos achieved a superb result in qualifying, today, and the Arden driver will start from the first row in tomorrow's race.
With a flying lap "Boss" secured the second position on the grid at the penultimate appointment of 2004 season after a strong performance. The young driver approached the circuit, today, determined to record a good qualifying time in his "home race".
Variable weather conditions characterized both free practice and qualifying making the sessions like a "lottery". With rain forecast for tomorrow, Robert objective was to complete a good session in order to start from the front row. Thanks to a series of fast laps Doornbos completed the qualifying session in a solid 2nd final position on the grid which makes him and the team very confident for tomorrow.
"I'm really happy. I made a good free practice session today, even if the weather conditions were Very variable and instable. In qualifying I knew I could record a good lap time and when I rejoined the track with the second set of new tyres I push hard. Christian Horner communicated me by radio that I was very fast and I was the fastest in the first part of the track, but at the Bus Stop I preferred not to take any risk and I braked a littler bit earlier. Anyway my lap time was good enough to start from the first row".
Rookie Robert Doornbos is actually 4th in Drivers standing with 28 points.
Hungaroring circuit: Lap length: 6,968 km
Tomorrow: Race at 16 o'clock -- Spa Francorchamps (22 laps)
