Gary Bradberry and the #78 Ford team will be sponsored by the Pilot Corporation in 1998 it was announced Thursday in Nashville. Pilot, with headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., owns 153 travel centers and convenience stores in 36 states. It will be Pilot's first venture into NASCAR.(That's Racin)

Sat., February 7 8 to 10 a.m. -- Practice sessions for Winston Cup, Bud Shootout, IROC and ARCA cars. 10 to 11 a.m. -- Second-round qualifying for ARCA 200 (positions 21 through 40). 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Practice sessions for Winston Cup, Bud Shootout and IROC. 2 p.m. -- First-round qualifying for the Daytona 500 (positions 1 and 2 only, remaining speeds go toward determining starting order for 125-mile qualifying races), followed by practice as time permits.

Sun., February 8 11 a.m. -- Start of preliminary race for Bud Shootout. Noon -- Start of the 1998 Bud Shootout, featuring pole winners from 1997 Winston Cup season and winner of preliminary race. 1:15 p.m. -- Start of ARCA 200, followed by IROC practice.

Mon., February 9 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. -- Practice sessions for Winston Cup, Grand National and IROC cars. 1 to 2 p.m. -- Second-round Winston Cup qualifying (speeds determine starting order for 125-mile qualifying races). 2 to 5 p.m. -- Practice sessions for Grand National, Dash series and IROC cars.

Tue., February 10 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Practice sessions for Winston Cup, Grand National, Dash series and IROC cars. 1 p.m. -- Third-round Winston Cup qualifying (speeds determine starting order for 125-mile qualifying races); followed by first-round qualifying for Grand National NAPA 300 (for positions 1 through 25) and first-round qualifying for Dash series Discount Auto Parts 200 (for positions 1 through 20).

Wed., February 11 8 a.m. to noon -- Practice sessions for Winston Cup, Grand National, Dash series and IROC cars. 1 p.m. -- Second-round qualifying for Grand National NAPA 300 (positions 26 through 38) and Dash series Discount Auto Parts 200 (positions 21 through 40), followed by practice at time permits.

Thu., February 12 12:30 p.m. -- Start of the first of two 125-mile Winston Cup qualifying races, the results of which determine positions 3 through 30 in the Daytona 500. Qualifying speeds and provisionals fill remaining spots in starting field.

Fri., February 13 9 to 10 a.m. -- Winston Cup series practice. 11 a.m. -- Start of Dash series Discount Auto Parts 200. 1:30 p.m. -- Start of first race in 22nd International Race of Champions series.

Sat., February 14 Noon -- Start of Grand National series NAPA 300 race, followed by final Winston Cup practice for the Daytona 500.

Sun., February 15 12:15 p.m. -- Start of the 40th annual Daytona 500. _____

The pre-Bud Shootout will air live on ESPN at 11:00am, followed immediately by the Bud Shootout on CBS at noon on Sunday, February 8, 1998(Mike Joy)(1-19-98)

An additional new feature of this year's Bud Shootout is a mandatory green-flag pit stop (changing of right-side tires), required between laps 10-12, of each 25-lap race(NASCAR Online)(2-1-98)

Special Paint schemes for the Bud Shootout included: #40 Chevy will feature a special Coors Light car; #42 BellSouth Chevy Joe Nemechek will drive will be black and neon; Ken Schrader will run Budweiser decals on his #33 Skoal Chevy which is black on the hood and roof and the "Bud Shootout" decal on the deck lid; #35 Todd Bodine Tabasco Pontiac will have a black car with flames; (compiled from many stories on Jayski.com)(2-5-98)

John Andretti will be driving the #50 Budweiser Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports in the Bud Shootout at Daytona. Andretti's present car owner, Richard Petty gave him permission since Andretti is qualified for the race, via winning a pole with Cale Yarborough in the #98, and I am sure NASCAR wanted the "Bud" car in the "Bud Shootout" and with Craven not earning a pole or being a second-round fastest qualifier, this arrangement was worked out(1-6-97)
