QUALIFYING FORMULA FORD ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP Round 1, Brands Hatch. Kent Sat/Sun 8/9th April
Anthony Davidson, in his BIC sponsored Haywood Racing Mygale, set 3rd fastest time in qualifying for tomorrow's Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec Championship season opener. Davidson's 1 min 29.749 sec lap of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit made him the fastest British driver and fastest Mygale runner in the 32-car field.
Davidson was one of only three drivers to break the 1 min 30 second barrier, just behind Australian, James Courtney and Swede, Robert Dahlgren in the works Van Diemens. Davidson, with a new engine in for this meeting, was upbeat after qualifying:
"I'm very happy with 3rd on the grid. We were running the same split times at the end of the session as at the start. The car is set up well for the race and I set my fastest time without a tow, Davidson said afterwards.
Haywood Racing Engineer, 'Puddy' Pullen, who has run Formula One drivers Ayrton Senna and Eddie Irvine in Formula Ford, said, "This will be the hardest Formula Ford championship for three years. We are confident and will all know a great deal more after tomorrow's race."
