Jerry Unser info wanted

As one of my many ongoing motorsports projects, I am (singlehandedly) beginning to assemble a proposal package nominating Jerry Unser (Johnny's dad, Big Al and Bobby's elder brother) as an inaugural inductee for the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame, which is currently soliciting names from the general public of noteworthy local sports heroes from 1850 to 1959. He easily qualifies given his NASCAR-sanctioned 1953 Hawaii Sportsman stock car title and his being the first driver of local racing background to qualify at Indy (having gotten his first major exposure racing at the local stadium while stationed here in the Navy).

I have until December 1 to come up with whatever photos, articles, and other documentation I can find, and thus far I haven't had too much luck. I've sifted through microfilms of the morning paper sports section through Feb. 1953 and have found articles of varying quality.

Any and all information which would help to induct Jerry Unser into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame would be greatly appreciated. If you have information that you you feel is pertinent to this project, please contact me at: unions@lava.net
