GRAND AM DRIVER RETURNS HOME
COLUMBIA, SC (May 11, 2006) -- Andy Brumbaugh is returning to his former home town of Phoenix, AZ for the upcoming Grand Am event at Phoenix International Raceway. Brumbaugh lived in Phoenix for most of the 1990's and did all of his karting from his Phoenix base. In karting he won numerous races and five championships. In 1999 Andy won ten out of ten Formula Ford races at P.I.R. on his way to a N.A.S.A. Formula Ford championship at age 15.
Just days ago Brumbaugh also graduated from The University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Real Estate. Andy also earned a minor in Advertising and Public Relations. This was chosen to help his racing career with formal skills beyond most in the racing community.
"I am really looking forward to going back to Phoenix and Phoenix International Raceway," said Brumbaugh. "Last year I got a ride and with no practice hopped into a GS Porsche and was running top-ten times during the race in a car that many thought was uncompetitive."
Brumbaugh is the only American and the youngest driver ever to win the prestigious Canadian Formula Ford Championship. He is now racing sports cars full time and has driven Porsche, Lexus and Mazda cars in Grand Am Cup, both GS and ST classes. He has also raced a Porsche in the Grand Am Rolex series.
