SCC: Phoenix: Mikel Miller qualifying notes

MIKEL MILLER PHOENIX THURSDAY TRACK NOTES GRAND AM CUP AVONDALE MAZDA 200

(PHOENIX, AZ-May 12, 2006) In what seems like a serious case of de ja vu, Mikel Miller and Tim Traver will start the BGB Motorsports #83 Simplenet.com Porsche from the 5th position. Tim matched his best qualifying effort, of not even a week ago at Laguna Seca, with a smart run through traffic in the 15 minute qualifying session.

Mikel drove the majority of the only other session of the day, a 30 minutes practice earlier in the afternoon. Mikel was steady and impressive, turning a best lap of 1:08.058, the second fastest time of the session, on a track that was slippery, sandy and crowded. Mikel felt comfortable with the car after the team made some handling changes, and was able to consistently turn fast laps before turning the car over to his team mate later in the session.

Mikel looks forward to getting the results he felt he should have had at Laguna Seca, before being robbed by a drive through penalty and being blindsided by another competitor near the end of the race. Mikel feels that the car, crew and his co driver are prepared, and looks forward to bringing the car home in one piece, at the top of the finishing order.

The green flag for the Grand-Am Cup Avondale Mazda 200 drops at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 13th.
