SCC: VIR: Randy Pobst race notes

Danville, VA (October 04, 2009) - Compass360 Racing realized their dreams today as they won the Street Tuner Driver's Championship with Christian Miller, as well as the Team Championship and the Manufacturer's Championship for Honda in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge! Although victorious with the championships, the race at Virginia International Raceway did not go quite as they had planned. Christian qualified the Compass360 Racing #74 Honda Civic Si in seventh, but fell out of the race at lap 28 with a broken differential. He officially finished in twenty-first, but luckily far enough ahead in the finishing order to win the championship.

In a strategic move, Compass360 decided to also start Randy, but in the #75 Honda which was in a battle for third position in the Team Championship. Randy started the race in sixth position and drove for 1 1/2 hours, turning the seat over to Jamie Holtom. With Christian out of the race early, Randy got back into the #75 with about 1 1/2 hours to go and finished in fourth place.

"Christian  got the job done!   He did such a fantastic job  all
year  with no mistakes or crashes.   It was a pleasure to be teamed with
Christian and to get to know his dad Grant and mother Barbara.   Our goal
today was  for Christian to win the championship with the #74 and
for  Compass360 to win third place in the Team Championship with Jamie
and I in the #75.   With our fourth place finish today, we achieved that
goal.   I had made it up to the front in my second stint, but had to be
conservative as  the brake pads were really wearing out towards the end
of the race, and we had to settle for fourth.   The handling was a little
tricky today but the longer we ran, the better it got.   As usual,
the  Honda was very reliable."

We had reliable cars and never crashed. It worked out just the way we had hoped. I had a wonderful time with this team all year and am very glad to have had this experience. Christian's closest points rivals, Andrew Aquilante and Kristian Skavnes, finished in fifth place in the race, 15 points behind Christian for the championship. The two APR Volkswagens, that had been such a force all season and were penalized points and prize money for rules violations at Salt Lake City, had numerous problems this weekend and were not contenders in the race. At press time, the standings have not been updated, but we are assuming that Randy finished fourth in the Driver's Championship. After missing two KONI races this season due to conflicts with the World Challenge team, that is a very impressive finish. The KONI Challenge finale at VIR unfortunately will not be televised. Randy's next World Challenge GT race will be the season finale October 9-11 at Laguna Seca.
