A solid top 5 start for Fittipaldi and Cheever
Alton, VA (Saturday April 22, 2006)-Christian Fittipaldi and Eddie Cheever will start fifth for tomorrows VIR 400-Rolex Sports Car Series Race.
Team points determined the starting grid for today's 30-minute qualifying race. Fittipaldi started in fifth position. Despite an engine misfire, Fittipaldi was able to finish the qualifying race in fifth with a lap time of 2:05.854 (80.269 mph).
Team and drivers points were awarded for today's qualifying race. After finishing fifth, the #39 Crown Royal Special Reserve Porsche has stayed in the fifth position for team points and Fittipaldi has remained in 6th position for drivers' points.
Tomorrow's race will start at 1:00pm and will be live on Speed.
Christian Fittipaldi:
"I am happy to collect the points considering all of the problems we had
this afternoon. The engine was misfiring from the start of the race
especially the first three laps. Who knows what happened today. It was a
disaster. On the first lap I did not even go by the pit straight in 4th
gear. I was just really slow with a lot of miss in the engine and that is
why the top three cars pulled away from me in the beginning of the race. I
thought I would not go two or three laps. I am very happy to have finished
fifth and that Eddie has a decent start for tomorrows race."
