Rule changes announced for WSCLM category

TAMPA, Fla, (January 24, 1995) -- IMSA announced today adjustments to the regulations for turbocharged World Sports Cars running in the Le Mans category at the 1995 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Mandatory air intake restrictors were decreased in diameter to 45.5 mm for single turbos and 32 mm for twin turbos. Minimum weights for turbocharged Le Mans World Sports Cars were increased 100 lbs to 2050 lbs.

The IMSA World Sports Car formula does not allow turbocharged engines for competition in the domestic EXXON World Sports Car Championship.

Parallel regulations for the 1995 24-Hours of Le Mans include a turbo- charged World Sports Cars option.

A provision for these "Le Mans" cars was included in the regulations for the 1995 Rolex 24 at Daytona to help garner international propagation of the IMSA World Sports Car concept. Le Mans cars competing at Daytona are not eligible to earn EXXON World Sports Car Championship points.

As announced in the original Daytona regulations, IMSA reserves the right toadjust the initial specifications for Le Mans World Sports Cars at any time preceding the event. After a careful and extensive review of the data, IMSA has decided that the potential of such engines exceeds the original estimates and that a legislated reduction in performance was required.
