Star Mazda West Coast Championship Finale

After a two-month hiatus, the grand finale to the Star Mazda West Coast Championship battle will be decided on September 21, 2002 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

"Mike Anderson and Moses Smith are putting on a super show." Gary E. Rodrigues, Series Administrator, commented about the top two contenders in this points fight.

Moses explained, "The beginning of this year was very hectic for me. A major sponsor pulled out, due to other commitments, at the last minute. So there I was, in January, without a vehicle or team. In fact, I had to run the first race in a rented ride."

Despite this discouraging beginning, Moses Smith, the 2001 "Rookie of theYear", has had an exceptional 2002 season. With ten of the eleven races in the books, Moses has collected seven poles; six wins; nine podiums; and all top five finishes.

Moses gives much of the credit for this impressive season tally to Ron Roland and his newly formed R-Sport Team. "Ron and the R-Sport Team are able to give me an aggressive car, right from the start. Ron really knows how to develop the maximum potential of our race cars."

However, this championship is not locked up for young Mr. Smith quite yet. With a mere fifteen-point deficit, Mike Anderson is still in the running. Having three first place finishes, Anderson can also boast about an exciting season.

Moses' R-Sport teammate, Matt Kurdock finishes off the currant top three positions. Matt is also leading the "Rookie of the Year" hopefuls, with a thirty-two-point cushion,
