Caracas, March.11, Ricardo Vassmer, the 23 year talented Venezuelan rising star is ready to start the 2007 US Star Mazda season this week, on Friday 16 at the 3.7 mile, 17 corners Sebring track, Florida. This Star Mazda season opener race will be part of the "12 Hours of Sebring" main event.
After finishing third in the competitive 2006 Cooper Tire Zetec Championship, and after attending selected Champ Car Atlantic races, Ricardo came out strong of his winter testing program with his 2007 team, Andersen Racing. The process of adapting to the new car has been completed and Ricardo looks strong for the upcoming season. The team is confident that Ricardo will be a title contending front runner of this upcoming championship, in a tight fight of Star Mazda drivers from USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. Some of these drivers have already shown strong numbers during the different past test days of the winter months, and for sure, this will be the toughest call for Ricardo, in his third years racing career in the US.
Ricardo has an impressive resume, which includes a double Formula Ford Championship in his home land, Venezuela (2001 and 2002), he also won the Colombian 2004 2 Liter open class championship, in conjunction with several endurance race wins, including the "6 Hours of Bogota" race in 2005. He finished his first year of racing in the US with 2 championship titles in 2005 Formula Ford 2000, and he was a convincing pole sitter at the 2005 Formula Continental SCCA Runoffs.
After finishing third in the competitive 2006 Cooper Tire Zetec Championship, and after attending selected Champ Car Atlantic races, Ricardo is now ready for his latest goal: The 2007 Star Mazda Championship.
Ricardo will team up with four drivers at Andersen Racing: Jonathan Goering (2006 Skip Barber National Champion), Jonny Baker (UK Formula Ford), Phil Saville (Star Mazda 2006 and 2005) and Mike Fitzgerald.
