The midwest storms returned to the Indianapolis area shortly before the earlier delayed practice had finished and prior to the schedule start at noon EDT of the MBNA Pole Day qualifying at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The thunderstorms are playing havoc on allowing the teams to setup the cars and the drivers to prepare mentally for the challenge of the four-lap qualifying attempts.
IMS officials have announced that the radar does not look promising, the cutoff time to start qualifying before the end of the scheduled session will be at 4:30pm EDT. If they cannot start at that time, Sunday's qualifying will be for the pole position.
Practice this morning had been delayed and though the first group did get their full 30 minutes, the second group only received ten minutes. When the track is fully dried, the second group practice will resume for their final 20 minutes of time remaining.
