WKA junior dirt racer tragically loses life
01.12.2010 -- Thirteen-year-old dirt-kart racer Shane Byers lost his life Sunday in a tragic ATV accident. WKA's thoughts and prayers go out to Shane's family and friends and everyone at Dale Johnson Motorsports.
Shane had recently competed at the Daytona Dirt World Championships for the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series. He had a terrific run in Briggs Jr Lite, starting last in the 13-kart field and making his way through the pack to finish fifth. He was just embarking on another season of kart racing with the goal of winning a championship.
A racer from Johnsonville, S.C., Shane loved karting and was also a star on a local basketball team. He was a fine racer and ball player and he'll be dearly missed by everyone who had a chance to know him.
