Michigan karter takes top step on podium

LEXINGTON, OHIO - Michigan racer Kyle Lawrence took first place honors in Group 4 of the Skip Barber Midwestern Championship.

"I did OK in qualifying in the rain," explained Lawrence. "I went from second to last right up to the leaders but there was a full course yellow and I was assessed a 20 second penalty for going off the track."

Lawrence started the final heat from 8th on the grid and battled his way up the field. "I caught the leader with four laps to go and waited to see where I was faster. That was pretty much most of the course. With only two laps left I got a good run on him through turns one and the chicane. At the Carousel I suckered him down to the inside, went to the outside and outbraked him."
