Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels wrap up Sunday classes
Wickens, Bilotta, Holtom and Di Leo take wins at Mosport
MOSPORT, ONTARIO The fifth round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels was held this weekend next door to the American Le Mans race at the Mosport Driver Development track. With the namesake of the series, Ron Fellows dicing it up less than a kilometer away in his C6R Corvette, the karters held their own battles. Winners on the day were Robert Wickens in Formula Senior, Justin Holtom in Canada Junior Heavy, Marco Di Leo in Rotax Max Jr., and Adriano Bilotta in World Formula Junior.
Formula Senior
Cameron Motorsports CRG driver Robert Wickens got a much needed Pfaff
Fast Qualifier award, which helped his cause to catch points leader
Daniel Morad in Formula Senior. Wickens went on to further his cause,
when he won the race, which kicked off the Sunday activities.
Firstkart.com's Morad held onto second, to minimize as much as possible
the assault on his point lead from Wickens. Third went to Birel's
Richard Boake, and the final race at Innisfil in a few weeks will decide
the Formula Senior Champion.
World Formula Senior
CMP's Adriano Bilotta won the Pfaff Fast Qualifier award and then went
on to win the race ahead of Innisfil Kart Club's Zack Boam. Third was
Hamilton Kart Club's Don Cole. The second and third place finishers were
actually sixth and seventh across the line, but second through fifth on
the track were disqualified in the post race technical inspection
process.
RotaxMax Senior
Firstkart.com's Eric Gerrits, and newly crowned Canadian Champion took
the Pfaff Fast Qualifier award. Gerrits day got worse when he got
together with Cameron Motorsports driver Marco Di Leo. Di Leo recovered
and went on to win, while Gerrits battled back from 11th to finish sixth
and remain in the points hunt. Second went to Mark Kitchen in his First
Kart, and SH Karting's Devin Cunningham finished third.
Canada Junior Heavy
CRG's Cory Luciano took the Pfaff Fast Qualifier award. Justin Holtom,
came from seventh on the grid to motor his way to the front. Once there,
he and SH Kartings Raphael Ranger built a lead by working together.
Holtom took the lead from Ranger, and Ranger fell back into the oncoming
pack. On the final lap, he was swallowed up by the pack, and it was Sodi
Kart's Greg Rempel who came out of that pack to finish second. Third
went to Gold Kart's Michael Di Meo.
The GM Racing award for Sunday went to Justin Holtom for his drive in Canada Junior Heavy. The Pratt&Miller Team Spirit award went to Eric Gerrits and Gerrits Racing.
Quick News GM Racing and Ron Fellows hosted a 'fun' bar-be-que at the Driver Development track on Friday night. The main attraction was 10 Cameron Motorsport F1-K karts for the team members of the C6R Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V to drive. Most team members tried out the karts, including drivers Max Papis and Olivier Beretta.
