WKA: David Ostella South Bend summary

Canadian David Ostella finishes second at World Karting Association Manufacturer's Cup Race two held at Michiana Raceway Park (MRP) South Bend, Indiana.

David Ostella was on a National podium once again over the weekend as he continues to work toward a major Championship in his final year of junior competition. At Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana, for the World Karting Association Zoom-Zoom Nationals, Ostella followed his second-place from the opener in Jacksonville with another at MRP.

Quick through Friday practice despite working through carburetion problems, Ostella was then quickest in Sunday morning warmup - the only race day for JICA at WKA Man. Cup events. A front row qualifying spot followed, and Ostella took the lead at the wave of the green in the prefinal. A dropped wheel working the fifth of twelve laps cost him the lead, and the teen from Maple, Ontario, then cruised to second, maintaining his front row spot for the main event. Looking to fine tune his Cameron/CRG for the final run, Ostella and tuner Mike Roth opted for a gear change and the young Canadian took the lead at the wave of the green once again. The change created a very free kart though, and David wrestled the kart home, saving second after sixteen laps.

Based on his pair of second-place finishes through two of five rounds, David is very much in the hunt for the point championship when the Series resumes June 15th at Shawano, Wisconsin. Ostella will see lots of action in his schedule in the meantime though, beginning this weekend at Goodwood Kartways in Stouffville, Ontario, as the 2007 Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship begins. A Stars of Karting Championship round follows one week later, before the SRFKC contests event two at the Cameron Motorsports Karting Complex in Hamilton, Ontario, home of the 2007 Canadian National Championships later this summer.
