Daytona Dirt Track progressing

09.08.2009 - Officials at Daytona International Speedway have announced they are in the final design stages in preparation for construction of a new dirt track at the "World Center of Racing." The newly designed track will be constructed at the base of Turns 1 and 2 just outside the 2.5-mile Superspeedway, and will play host to the return of the WKA Dirt World Championship during Daytona KartWeek By Cometic Gasket, the largest dirt karting event in the country.

Daytona and World Karting Officials are working together to finalize the physical amenities of the facility and construction will begin shortly.

The return of the Speedway Dirt Series renews the famed tripleheader of racing to Daytona. Fans will have the luxury of viewing the best in the nation in Dirt racing, as well as Americas best 2 Cycle competitors on the George Kugler Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series, and the Dunlop Tire Road Race Series, both driven by Mazda. The Road Race Series will tackle the high banks of Daytona while the Manufacturer's Cup Series will wage war on the demanding sprint track inside of NASCAR turns 3 and 4.

For many years, the speedway dirt series thrived at the nearby Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. With the upcoming instillation of a new synthetic football turf at the stadium, the speedway quickly jumped on the concept of placing a new dirt track on the historic speedway grounds.

Updated information will be available with entry blanks in the works for the latest edition of Daytona KartWeek By Cometic Gasket, the best choice for Florida racing in December.
