Indianapolis, Ind. - The engines fire early for the Indianapolis Speedrome's 60th Anniversary on Sunday, March 4th as the east-side speedway prepares for its busiest and most exciting season ever. Over 120 racing days planned so far covering everything from go-carts to sprint cars and demolition derbies to open competition late model cars.
An open practice session for all cars starts off the racing season with gates opening and registration starting at 11:00 AM. Sunshine Cafe Roadrunners, Chuck's Race Car Parts Stock cars, Circle City Car Company Late Models will be on hand to prepare for their 2001 season championships. Also expected are Legend cars and Bandoleros, NAMARS midgets, and maybe even some go-carts and who-knows-what-else.
Added to the pre-season schedule is the Carmel Sod Outlaw Stock Figure-8 series for stock-bodied racers. Expected are not only Speedrome regulars but also racers from Anderson, Jeffersonville, Louisville and throughout the Midwest.
For security and safety reasons this weekends events are "pits-only" with special short-term licenses being issued for those who are competing only in the Carmel Sod Series. Speedrome staff will be on hand early to begin issuing 2001 licenses and getting everyone in the pits quickly for the afternoon's events.
