Rookie Pete Shepherd Jr. earns to pole for Sunday's ATTO Canada Day Shootout at Cayuga

HAMILTON, ON - CASCAR Super Series rookie Pete Shepherd Jr. edged some of the series' top stars during time trials on Saturday at Cayuga 2000 Speedway to earn the pole for Sunday's ATTO Canada Day Shootout.

The young Brampton, ON racer lapped the 5/8-mile Cayuga oval in a time of 21.404 seconds, which was just 30/1000ths of a second better than second-fastest time-trialer, DJ Kennington (21.434). The two MOPAR-powered Dodge drivers will sit on the front row for Sunday's 200 lap feature race.

Points leader Peter Gibbons was third quickest, just 2/1000ths back of Kennington. Starting alongside of Gibbons will be three-time and defending Super Series champion Don Thomson Jr. (21.472).

A total of 33 drivers participated in time trials for the ATTO Canada Day Shootout, the fifth of 12 Super Series events on the 2004 schedule. The race marks the second of three visits to Cayuga this season. Peter Gibbons won the Power Water 200 at the legendary Hamilton-area track, back on June 11.

The ATTO Canada Day Shootout is scheduled to start Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
