BURT MYERS WINS BUD POLE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT'S ADVANCE AUTO PARTS 199 AT BOWMAN GRAY STADIUM
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 5, 2005) -- Burt Myers won the Bud Pole position for Saturday night's Advance Auto Parts 199 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at Bowman Gray Stadium. Myers, of Walnut Cove, N.C., toured the quarter-mile oval in 13.812 seconds, at an average speed of 65.161, to capture the fast qualifier award for the second time this season. The top six qualifying positions were re-drawn, placing Myers in the fifth starting position for Saturday night's race. Jay Hedgecock, who qualified second fastest, will start in the first position following the re-draw. Tim Brown will start second, followed by Bobby Hutchens, Jay Foley and Myers in the fifth starting position.
A field of 22 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour cars will compete in the 199-lap race on Saturday, marking the Tour's first visit to Bowman Gray. Saturday's Whelen Southern Modified Tour race will take the green flag at approximately 8:40 p.m.
After the first four Whelen Southern Modified Tour races, five-time Bowman Gray track champion Junior Miller leads the point standings by a 13-point margin (614-601) over Myers, who is also a former Bowman Gray champion. Foley is ranked third in the standings with 598 points.
