Track operators given awards

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 15, 2001) - NASCAR Weekly Racing Series track operators from around the nation were honored with several awards this past weekend during NASCAR's 'Speedweeks' activities.

Over the weekend NASCAR Weekly Racing Series officials presented the annual 'Team-Player' awards and several other achievement and specialty awards.

The 'Team-Player' awards are presented to an individual or track representing each of the 10 regions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series program. The awards are voted on by a poll of NASCAR Weekly Racing Series officials who work directly with the track operators.

'Team-Player' award recipients from the 2000 season were as follows;
Atlantic Seaboard Region, Brad Skelding, from Southampton Motor Speedway in Capron, Va.;
Blue Ridge Region, Russell and Valastra Hackett, Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.;
Great West Region, Doug Binstock, Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah;
Heartland Region, Bill Willard from Lebanon (Mo.) I- 44 Speedway;
Mid-America Region, Renee Fredrickson from Elko (Minn.) Speedway;
Midwest Region, Daryl and Gloria Tobias from Madison (Minn.) Speedway;
New England Region, Bill Quirk from Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway;
Northeast Region, Barbara and Jim Cromarty from Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway;
Pacific Coast Region, Doug Stokes from Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway;
Sunbelt Region, Charlie and Zonda Powell from Summerville (S.C.) Speedway.

"Our track operators characterize the foundation of our business," stated Tom Deery, NASCAR vice president. "They are the individuals that put forth the extra effort to bring the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series to the forefront of American short track racing. We are grateful for their enthusiastic contributions to our industry."

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series is contested every season on both dirt and asphalt tracks, nationwide. Weekly short track racers have the opportunity to compete for regional and national recognition, as well as over $1.7 million in posted awards; the highest posted awards for any short track racing series.
