Herbert Holds No. 2 Position
BAYTOWN, Texas (March 29, 2008) After four rounds of qualifying action for the NHRA Spring Nationals, Doug Herbert and the SnaponFranchise.com team secured the No. 2 qualifying position.
Herbert's fastest pass of the weekend came during Friday's second qualifying session, a blistering 4.54 second pass at 318.02 mph.
Saturday's qualifying sessions brought warm weather and tricky track conditions. Most teams struggled to find their way down the quarter-mile, allowing Herbert to lock in the No. 2 position.
"I'm really proud of this team," said Herbert. "They have been busting their butts to make sure we have a strong race car that is a solid contender, and it looks like we have one.
"The track was a little tricky today, but we learned some things that will help us tomorrow. The weather should be pretty similar, so we'll put to use what we learned and come out ready to win tomorrow.
"We want the championship, and we want it for my boys. Qualifying in the No. 2 spot is really good and we will gain a few points for qualifying good, now we just need to bring home the trophy."
Herbert will face Bob Vandergriff in the opening round of eliminations.
