In 1997 Tony Gillig won his first National event with his IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stocker Under the hood, a potent 814 ci power plant. He was #1 Qualifier, set low ET of the event as well as every round and won his first race.

Bristol Dragway, Thunder Valley as many call it, has a special place in Gillig's history as a Pro Stock racer.

"Back in the Mountain Motor days we ran very well, and we seemed to dominate the entire event in Bristol. The plus side was in the fall of 1997 they bull dozed the track and made it an awesome multimillion dollar NHRA facility. I hope we can achieve some of the success now as we did a few years ago," states Gillig.

Gillig Motorsports has taken delivery of their new Steve Schmidt motor this week and is very excited to make the first run on Friday with their newfound power.

"We struggled with the tune up on Steve's motor in Vegas and we found our problem. I can't wait to let the clutch out Friday. Steve has worked extra hard to find power and I hope we can help his engine business by running strong in Bristol."

Based on the results of the next few races Tony said they would hopefully have things in order for a new Cavalier in the future. Even though Team Gillig is racing on a shoestring and may look like "David", they hope to deliver a "Goliath" punch!
