MORRISON, Colo. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster pilot David Wells and the Blue Bunny Ice Cream/ "Plain Vanilla" team will be looking to take over the Division 5 points lead during this weekend's Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Bandimere Speedway just outside of Denver. Wells and Championship-winning tuner Norm Grimes have both enjoyed success on 'The Mountain,' and hope to play off that this weekend.
Wells, from LeMars, Iowa, feels that this race is a critical race for the team's championship hopes. Wells currently trails Bradshaw by a mere ten points going into this weekend.
"This is a big race for us," said Wells. "We normally do pretty good here and Norm always did well here with Santos. Hopefully we'll be able to combine our successes. A win here would not only give us the points lead, but give us the momentum heading into the summer stretch."
Wells feels it will take 5.60's at 250 mph to get the win this weekend.
"If it doesn't get too hot, it will take 5.60's to win out there," stated Wells. "This car ran .60's here a couple years ago, so hopefully we'll be able to dial that back in."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions following on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
