DENVER (July 19) - Miller Lite / Snake Racing Top Fuel driver, Larry Dixon drove to the provisional No. 6 qualifying position after Friday's qualifying sessions at the 23rd annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, recording a time of 4.848 seconds, 292. 65 mph.
As the defending champion of the race, Dixon's crew led my veteran tuner, Dick LaHaie knows a thing or two about dealing with the thin air and their progress flourished with the Miller Lite dragster setting the low elapsed time in the first session when he ran a time of 4.924 seconds, 292.65 mph before going nearly a tenth of second quicker in the evening qualifying run.
"After the first round, we just wanted to go down the racetrack and get a good baseline," said Dixon. "I think we did and it happened to be quick of the session. We're just happy to get down the racetrack, so that we can improve. That's what your game plan is - get a baseline run and slowly improve as the weekend goes along. There are a few cars that ran quicker than us tonight, but overall I'm happy we're going quicker on every run.
Dixon's Miller Lite colleague, V Gaines placed his Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier in the No. 8 position running a time of 7.311 ET, 189.28 mph.
