Troy Goes Out in Round One
Troy Coughlin started race day from the No. 16 qualifying position. This is the third straight race the 39-year old second generation driver has qualified for this year.
Coughlin faced off against No. 1 qualifier Jason Line in the opening round. The yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier rolled into the right lane.
The starting line advantage went to Line by .008 seconds (.026 to .034). The margin of victory at the stripe was .0313 seconds and it went to Line. Coughlin made a slightly slower run of 6.881 at 201.25 mph.
"We made a smooth and straight run in the first round," explained Coughlin. "The guys are doing a great job and we have a much better handle on the car. We will head to Topeka and work on improving our race day performance their."
Troy earned 31 points at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals. He will enter the ninth race of 2004 NHRA season in the No. 20 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship. Troy has a total of 144 points with 15 races remaining. The next event is the NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX in Topeka, KS. May 27-30th.
