Mechanical problem ends Greg Anderson's day at Firebird

Chandler, Ariz. (February 25, 2007) -- A mechanical problem during eliminations for the 23rd annual NHRA Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals prevented Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO, from advancing past the second round at Firebird International Raceway.

In the opening round Tom Martino turned on the red light, by .005 seconds, and Anderson took a free ride to the second round. For the record, Anderson ran an elapsed time of 6.640 seconds.

Against Jim Yates in round two, Anderson broke an oil line which spilled oil onto the track during the burnout, giving Yates a free ride to the second round. Anderson was shut off and his day for a second consecutive win to start the 2006 season came to an end.

"An oil line ended what other wise might have been a good day," said Anderson, following the abrupt end to his race day. "It was a good weekend, even though we had a few hiccups in qualifying, which we corrected for today. For some reason we've always had issues with this racetrack. This year was no different. I guess you could say it was an up and down weekend.

"We've got a great package between the engine and the race car. We'll go to Gainesville and try to make perfect runs and take a win light."
