The opening round of qualifying for the factory hot rod class proved to be interesting. A majority of the cars made aggressive moves at the transition and were forced to abort.

Troy was bit by more bad luck in the first qualifying session. He was pushed off of the starting after his burnout when the team discovered oil under the car as it moved closer to the starting line.

"They say that everything comes in three's. We should be done with the bad luck streak and we are focused on getting back," said Troy.

Jeg Coughlin rolled into the right lane waterbox. The Jeg's Chevrolet Cavalier had plenty of eyes focused on it when it left the starting line.

The car headed straight down the middle of the groove until the transition. The car made some moves and Jeg stayed with it as long as he could. He ran a 7.692 at 140.91 mph and landed in the No. 9 position.

"Our first run was tricky for everyone. The cars struggled to keep traction and the numbers on the board told the story," commented Jeg.

Troy was the first of the two identical looking yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavaliers to take on the track in the second session. He launched from the starting line and the car moved around down track. Troy pulled the parachutes a little early to calm the car down. He ran a 7.133 at 169.19 mph and ended up in the No. 19 spot.

"The car was on a great run and it just was a little too aggressive down track. We will make some changes to my car and have a set up more like what we put into the other car," explained Troy.

Jeg rolled into the preferred left lane for the second session. The Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier followed the groove all the way down the track. The reigning Pro Stock Champion jumped up to the No. 1 spot. He ran a 6.880 at 199.14 mph and set the track record in the process.

"The Jeg's Cavalier made some very minor moves 250-feet out from the starting line. From the seat the run felt about as smooth as it gets. The graph of the run looked great when we got back in the trailer. Our team has been under a lot of pressure. It is great to see teamwork pay off like this and put the Jeg's Chevy Cavalier on the top of the page," explained Jeg.
