VANDERGRIFF SEES RED IN TOPEKA
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 27, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. saw red at this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park Topeka. It wasn't from the heat in the nation's Heartland, it was from a rare red-light start by the UPS Top Fuel pilot in the first round of Sunday's elimination's against Tony Schumacher. "I feel bad for the team," said Vandergriff. "The guys are doing a great job and the car is coming around. We are running more consistently and we are going down the racetrack everytime."
The UPS team was the recipient of the Full Throttle award for consistency at last weeks race in Columbus, Ohio.
Vandergriff and the team will go back to the shop in Alpharetta, Ga., to prepare for the CarQuest Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. on June 9-11. Vandergriff leaves Topeka in the 14th position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings.
