Season-opening doubleheader to feature 38 cars
SHARON, CONN. (April 12, 2007) - The F2000 Championship Series, after months of anticipation and growth, commences its second season this coming weekend, April 13-15, with Rounds One and Two being held at Virginia International Raceway.
While the inaugural F2000 Championship Series proved a success, no one could have predicted that the 2007 edition would get underway with a three-fold increase in competitors. Perhaps more impressive is the level of talent on tap for the upcoming season.
Entering the season-opening doubleheader, the 38-car entry list makes it virtually impossible to predict who will be standing on the top step of the podium at the end of each day. With several champions from various open-wheel series, SCCA division champions and multiple Formula Continental race winners on the entry list, the only thing assured is great side-by-side racing.
Once again featuring equalized Pinto and Zetec-powered Formula Continental cars, each race weekend will feature several on-track sessions including two main event races. The F2000 Championship Series season-opening doubleheader at VIR kicks off with a track test day on Thursday. The following day, the series competitors will have two 25-minute practice sessions to finalize their qualifying and/or race setups. The opening race day of the season gets underway Saturday, with a 25-minute qualifying session for Round One at 10 a.m. ET, followed by race one of the doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday the same format will be used, with qualifying for the second race taking place at 12:15 p.m., ahead of the green flag for Round Two scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
