TOUGH WEEKEND FOR DUNCAN TAPPY AND SPURS IN ITALY
Race 1:
Qualified 13th
Finished 11th
Race 2:
Reverse grid start position 8th
Finished DNF
At the Rome circuit, both Duncan and his Sevilla team-mate struggled with car set-up in practice and qualifying so hopes were high for improvements with changes overnight. Unfortunately the changes didn't have the impact the team hoped for. In race one the car was improved for the first few laps but after that Duncan struggled and played it safe knowing that each place conceded meant a higher place for the start of the following race. He managed to hold on and crossed the line in 11th.
Race two was looking better with Duncan gaining positions on track and in the pit stops to lie in 5th position. He was chasing the pack in front of him when the Olympiacos car ahead made a mistake and went into a spin. Duncan couldn't avoid it and ended up spinning into the gravel ending his race.
Duncan and Spurs may not be leading the Superleague Formula itself but this weekend saw them leap to the top of the 'Keep-Up' competition with Duncan managing 42 kicks of a football without it touching the ground smashing the previous record of 32 from Al Ain's Paul Meyer. Tottenham Hotspur now has 149 points and lies sixth in the championship.
Duncan Tappy "It's not been the best of weekends but we did as well as we could with the set-up. The team did a great job in the pit stop in race two to gain position and we were looking good for a decent result when Olympiacos started to spin. I thought I could make it round but then it caught me at the rear and there was nothing I could do."
