ASCS Regional Action on Tap for Next Weekend

TULSA, Okla. (April 8, 2004) -- After an idle weekend, the American Sprint Car Series shifts back into action on Saturday night, April 17, with a pair of Regional events. The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region will be in action at Tulsa Speedway, while the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region will be in competition at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA.

It will mark the second event of the season for both the Sooner and Gulf South Regional tours.

Teenager Sam Hafertepe, Jr., kicked off the 2004 Gulf South season by pulling off the surprise victory over Terry Gray and Travis Rilat at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, on March 13. It was Hafertepe's first career Sprint Car feature triumph.

With two-time and defending Gulf South Region champion Kelly Angelette perhaps abdicating his Cajun throne, the chase for Gulf South bragging rights in 2004 could be up for grabs. Following next Saturday night's Fast Trax outing, the Gulf South Region will return to action two weeks later in conjunction with the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour on April 30 at 67 Texarkana Speedway and May 1 at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA.

The ASCS Sooner Region also has its second event of the season next Saturday night, as the series makes its first stop at Tulsa Speedway. Wayne Johnson, piloting the car Kevin Ramey drove to the 2003 Sooner Region title, kicked off the 2004 Sooner Region season by topping a tough field of competitors this past Saturday night at Caney Valley Speedway.

The April 17 event at Tulsa Speedway kicks off the first of four consecutive weekends of racing action for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region.

The O'Reilly ASCS National Tour fires back up with a two-day show at Memphis Motorsports Park on April 23-24.

With the snow almost melted, the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region goes green in little more than a month, kicking off at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD, on May 14.

The American Sprint Car Series is currently slated to sanction 90 nights of racing at 49 different tracks throughout 14 different states during 2004.
