Odessa qualifying report

ODESSA, Mo. (June 15, 2001) -- Second-year ASA driver Robbie Pyle, of Columbus, Ohio, picked up his second pole of the 2001 season, taking the top spot for Saturday's ASARacing.com 300 at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo.

The pole, matching his best 2001 effort at Concord Motorsports Park, is his fourth career front row starting spot. Pyle, after being quick in practice all day long, turned a lap of 16.743 sec. (116.108 mph).

"This is the first time I have ever been quickest in practice and went out and qualified on the pole," said Pyle. "I ran really good here last year, and we are using the same setup. Winning two poles and having a strong run at Nashville has been a big conf idence booster for the team."

Veteran Mike Garvey will start outside the front row, turning his lap of 16.799 sec. (115.721 mph), followed by the hottest driver on the circuit, Johnny Sauter, who turned a lap of 16.803 sec. (115.694 mph).

"Track was better with the sun going down," said Garvey. "We wasted all of the practice sessions today with breaking parts."

Veteran ASA driver and Kansas City native Rick Beebe and two-time 2001 event winner Joey Clanton round out the top five.

Greg Stewart won the 100-lap qualifying race, beating our Greg Williams and Ricky Bryant at the line.

Kansas City, Missouri's Billy Deckman will make the start in tomorrow's ASARacing.com 300, qualifying 18th. John O'Neal crashed his car in practice and failed to make a qualifying attempt and will not start in Saturday's event.

Activities begin on Saturday with spectator gates open at 4 pm (local) and the on-track autograph session starts at 6. The green flag for the ASARacing.com 300 flies at 8 p.m
