Defending Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Champion Tony Elliott of Kokomo, Ind. swept victories in the "Sheldon Kinser Memorial" and "Danny Milburn Classic" events this past weekend and solidified his hold on third in the point standings. The series travels to Iowa Saturday night for its inaugural appearance at the 1/2-mile paved Hawkeye Downs oval in Cedar Rapids. A 30-lap feature is on tap, following practice at 6 pm, qualifying at 7 and preliminary races, starting at 8. Elliott led all but two laps of Friday night's 40-lap "Sheldon Kinser Memorial" at the Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway, then emerged from an intense duel with series point leader Dave Darland to lead the final four laps of Saturday night's "Danny Milburn Classic" at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway in his Stealth/Lamers/Jam-It-In Storage Special. Trailing Elliott at Bloomington were Tracy Hines, Darland, Turbines, Inc. fast qualifier Brad Fox and Kevin Miller. Darland took second at Lawrenceburg, followed by Kevin Briscoe, Terry Pletch and Todd Kane. Cary Faas was the Turbines, Inc. fast qualifier at Lawrenceburg. Justin Marvel led two laps early in the Bloomington race but finished eighth. At Lawrenceburg, Darland and Elliott traded the lead back and forth four times before Elliott finally took command on the 27th of the 30 laps.
