WM: Altamont summary, Bakersfield preview

WESTERN MIDGETS AT BAKERSFIELD SATURDAY; SWANSON TAKES TRACY MIDGET FEATURE

The USAC Western Midget Series returns to Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway this Saturday and the team of Johnny Rodriguez and Matt Mitchell could be tough to beat. They currently rank first and third in the standings, Rodriguez seeking a second series championship.

Neither Rodriguez nor Mitchell were among the "top-10" in last Saturday's pavement race at Tracy, Calif., but between them they won three of four races during one stretch in May and June.

Scott Pierovich, still seeking his first victory of the season after two seconds and three fourths, hopes to improve on his fourth and eighth in previous 2007 races at the Bakersfield oval.

Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. won Saturday's 30-lapper at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, leading the last 13 laps in his Pedregon Motorsports Toyota/Q Racing Spike/Toyota. Bradley Galedrige, Mike Murgoitio, Pierovich and Michael Faccinto rounded out the "top-five." Galedrige and Faccinto led early laps before Swanson went to the front.

Danny Stratton and Greg Bragg were the winners in Bakersfield's previous USAC Midget features this year.
